Look Daddy, It's a Rocket!

He is also known to call these wonderful Lego creations, "Way talls," as in a way tall tower. I often hear, "Mommy, make it a way tall!"

Awesome loves to share with Cool (sharing with other two year olds, now that's another story). Here he's letting his brother have his giant and one of his trains. He was sitting there saying things like, "Here, it's a choo-choo train."

In this picture, Awesome has simply covered Baby C with all the baby toys. C was asleep during the process, but he didn't really seem to care when he woke up.

Check Out That Focus

Cool has really begun to focus on things. It is so fun to see him concentrating super hard. Here he's just engrossed in the mobile but he's also focusing on toys. He's getting good at grabbing things and getting them into his mouth (I think we might have a tooth soon).

Like Brother, Like Brother

We have this really great play mat Grandma Funk gave us when Awesome was born. It has fun hanging down things and both boys completely love it (or at least Awesome did when he was Cool's age). Here's Awesome playing with it on his blessing day.

Eventually both boys figured out how to pull down the butterflies. We found Awesome like this one day.

What FHE Looks Like at My House

My friend and former roommate, Heather, has been doing a series on her blog called, "What FHE looks like at my house." All last week she had guest bloggers write about their typical Family Home Evening. This week, she is hosting a blog hop and inviting others to chime in. This is me chiming.

Because our family consists of two very young boys, our FHE's are short. Baby C (three months old) is typically asleep or eating. His participation will become more mandatory as he gets bigger. The rest of us gather on the couch and start by singing songs. Awesome (our two year old) picks the songs (usually The Wise Man and the Foolish Man and The Wheels on the Bus).

After we sing, my husband or I give an under five minute lesson. We like to use the Gospel Art book as our manual. We find a picture, tell the story, and/or relate a Gospel principle to the picture. For example, the other night I used the picture of the Savior in the Garden of Gethsemane and taught about obedience.

After the lesson we usually sing another song and then say a prayer. We typically do our activity after the prayer. The activity is also pretty simple. We get on the floor and play trucks mostly. We have also made treats and watched movies.

Our FHEs are not perfect; we don't all sit there quietly and happily, but it's nice to be together and I feel that the Gospel seeds we are planting are important and will help shape the lives of our young boys. I want to thank Heather for this series on her blog. I have really enjoyed pondering on FHE and how I would like to improve things in my home. I really feel our efforts matter and this is one of the simple things that will "make great things come to pass" (see Alma 37:6).

Big Boy Bed

We finally bit the bullet. Last night (4-16-11), we took away the crib. Awesome was not excited to sleep in his big boy bed and repeated over and over through his tears, "No big boy!" We put him into bed along with his three favorite blankies (Grandma Sue's "I Spy" blankie, Grandma Funk's frog blankie, and Grammy G's Winnie the Pooh blankie. I like to think of them as the Grandma trio) and his three favorite animals (Elmo, the Lorax, and Moo Cow from Mr. Brown Can Moo). He wouldn't accept the comfort items, so we just left them on the bed and left the room. Not long after he was calling for his blankies, so Daddy went in and tucked him in. I found him like this about hour later. Note the pillow is sliding onto the floor.

The next time I checked on him his position had changed to this. I think he must have just followed the pillow right onto the floor. It didn't even wake him up.

Daddy went in again and put everything back on the bed and created a makeshift headboard to keep Awesome on the bed. As you can see, he slept comfortably the rest of the night.

So Blessed

Baby Cool was blessed last Sunday (4-10-11). It was a beautiful day surrounded by family. Here are some pictures of the day.

Another St. Patty's at Discovery Gateway

The boys and I joined S and I for another fabulous day at the Children's Museum. This year Awesome was much more adventurous and even made a few breaks for it. Thankfully the employees were helpful at stopping kids before they got too far.

We started the day in the construction area. Both Awesome and his friend, I, enjoyed riding around on the trucks. Awesome also found a hammer and enjoyed going "bam, bam, bam" on the sign.

We then spent time at the music table followed by the ball area. Awesome loved hitting the xylophones with a mallet. I think he might have stayed there all day, but he wanted to find our friends. When we found them in the ball area, he quickly forgot about the music table. The boys loved putting balls through the hole pictured below. Awesome also enjoyed putting his face through.

This Jeep was a big hit. Awesome saw it while playing at the water table and the water was immediately abandoned. He sat in every possible seat, climbed over and around, and spun the steering wheel like a pro.

But don't worry, he still found his favorite spot from last year. Nothing like sitting in a row boat.

Getting bigger by the second

Baby Cool is growing like crazy. He will be three months old next Saturday and I can hardly believe he's been with us that long. He is such a calm little man. He is content to lay on the ground and watch what is happening around him. He is just soaking it all in.

He's Arrived!

Our sweet new baby boy was born on January 2, 2011 at 9:31am. He weighed 6 lbs. 14 oz. and was 19 inches long. He is healthy, sweet, and wonderful. Welcome, Cool Funk!

We had such a great October.
We went to Gardner Village and saw the witches.

And played with the "punkins."

Then we went to Pumpkinland. Don't let these shots fool you. My little boy had a fabulous time!

Peter and I had a chance to go to San Francisco (sorry, no good pictures from the trip). And then came Halloween.

35 Weeks

I have officially been pregnant a whole week longer than I have ever been before. Here's a shot of me and the new little boy.

St. Patrick's at Discovery Gateway

Awesome and I joined our friends S and I for a fun afternoon at Discovery Gateway on St. Patrick's Day. We spent most of our time in the 3 years and under area and the boys loved it. Awesome went straight for the row boat, climbed in and sat in the bow for a long time. The kids crawling in and out didn't even faze him. His spot was claimed.

He got a little more adventurous later and mastered both slides and played with things on the walls. He especially liked the area for really little kids. We also played in the ball area and on the music table. I look forward to going again and exploring more of the museum.

A Day in the Life

Awesome has many activities he enjoys during the day. First: Taking things out of other things. Here you can see that he has surrounded himself with the contents of his toy basket.

Second: Playing on the stairs. He loves to go up and down the stairs, especially if he can get Mommy or Daddy to chase him.

Third: Playing with technology. He especially loves phones, computers, and remotes, but you can see here that he’s pretty interested in the camera too.

Fourth: Exploring the world around him. He crawls all over the place with those wide eyes open. He loves to cruise around holding onto the back of the highchair, his push walker, and everything else.
